The technology of rebellion

This morning while driving, the Holy Spirit began to reveal insights into what catalyzed the fall of humanity—a mechanism I refer to as the “technology of rebellion,” originally devised by Lucifer, the arch-rebel.

2 Corinthians 2:11 ESV warns us: “so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” The term ‘design’ broadly refers to the conceptualization and planning involved in crafting objects, systems, or interactions with specific aesthetics and functionalities in mind.

To simplify, imagine a human being as a smartphone:

  • The physical phone represents the human body.
  • The operating system (OS) symbolizes the Holy Spirit.
  • The GPU reflects the human mind.
  • The CPU parallels the human spirit.
  • The battery is akin to the Word of God.
  • The sensor correlates to the human sensory systems like smell, touch, and taste.
  • Software updates enhance the OS and apps, akin to spiritual growth and renewal.
  • Apps signify the fruits and gifts of the Spirit.
  • The phone screen represents the human eye.

The phone’s functionality hinges on its operating system. Similarly, without the Holy Spirit, a person is spiritually inactive—essentially ‘dead’. By divine design, the operating system is installed at the point of manufacture by God, the ultimate creator.

Now, consider the malicious updates introduced by the devil. Lucifer’s ‘update’ of rebellion corrupted the divine operating system installed in mankind, causing humanity to lose everything bestowed by God. This rebellious update introduced a slew of viruses, namely sin, which spawned further corruptions like adultery, lying, and stealing.

This same nefarious tactic continues to ensnare humanity, echoing the initial rebellion of Lucifer, which sparked a celestial war. Cast down to Earth, he implemented this corrupt update in humans, leading to their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

For a deeper exploration of this concept, look out for my forthcoming book.
